Our State Road Network

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is responsible for the management of State Roads across South Australia. State Government managed roads include nationally significant roads, freeways, arterial roads, regional roads, and associated assets such as lighting, traffic signals, drainage, signs, bridges, and some shared use paths.

Typically, the State’s road network caters for large traffic volumes over longer distances compared to local roads. State roads are approximately 25% of all roads in South Australia.

Please view the State Road Network map.

The State Road network does not include local roads such as residential streets, laneways, etc. Local roads (including a majority of the footpath network) are under the care and management of local councils. However, the State Government does maintain a number of local roads within regional areas (in the north of the State) many of which are unsealed.

For the first section of the survey we are asking you to rate the road network in terms of its importance to you.
